About the Assessment
The Government of Alberta is dedicated to ensuring high-quality, accessible, affordable, and inclusive child care that meets the needs of Alberta families. To advance this vision, Deloitte, in partnership with HelpSeeker, has been contracted by the Ministry of Jobs, Economy, and Trade (JET) to a lead province-wide Child Care Community Needs Assessment, scheduled for completion by June 30th 2025.

This initiative will help communities identify the demand for licensed child care and develop customized actionable insights to address local needs. Through meaningful collaboration with all communities, this project will enhance access to affordable and high-quality child care across the province.

Identify needs
Identify child care needs for children ages 0-5 in each community.
uncover barriers
Uncover barriers that prevent families from accessing child care.
Develop plans
Develop customized actionable insights for communities to address their specific child care needs.
The insights gathered from this assessment will:

Empower communities with the data they need to make informed decisions about child care.

Inform JET’s strategies for child care space creation, workforce planning, and inclusion supports, in alignment with the Canada-Alberta Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.

Help shape future policies and supports, ensuring that any action taken is community-driven and responsive to local needs.
Each participating community will receive a tailored report with actionable insights and an interactive online assessment tool.
Collaborative Solutions for Child Care Growth
JET will use these strategies to inform space creation, workforce planning, and inclusion supports, aligning with the commitments outlined in the Canada-Alberta Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.
JET will receive copies of the individualized reports and the interactive online assessments to inform province-wide strategies, enhance understanding of community interest and needs for licensed child care, and identify barriers faced by underserved communities. Any future action or targeted support will be considered only in collaboration with, and at the request of, the community.
